Description C. late 19th C. Set of four accessories [accouterments] of embroidered midnight-blue silk with seed pearls.

This type of purse always would have been worn in pairs. They were the most important of all purses due to their origin as leather pouches for flint. Some purses were used to hold scented cotton or aromatic herbs to sweeten the air around the wearer.
