Description Cream silk ground brocaded with dusty roses and leaves, square neck, pleated peplum, fitted sleeve and pleated wing cuff.

Original catalog card: 1740s, Cream silk ground with large roses in dusty pink, with green leaves and stalks scrolling overall. Bodice with square neck and pleated peplum, fitted sleeves to elbow with large pleated wing cuff.

Caraco Jacket (Short Bodice)
England, ca. 1740s
Ivory silk brocade with floral and vine designs. The bodice was worn as informal day wear and originally might have been styled as a robe a la francaise. Bodice and sleeves lined with natural linen. Possibly used to clothe an altar figure. The once-unseen back is made of linen.
